Skoda 100/110R | the sedan and its fast back 2 doors sporty version

This is a post I discovered this days when I made a retrospective on my Blog.

Surfing through different posts I realysed that in 2023 this blog celebrates its 10th anniversary... time flies… some say!

 The good think is that I decided to restart this blog by posting as I done several years ago.

So, long story short, I invite you guys to surf on this blog. There are several interesting stories,and stay tuned for new stories about automobiles and collections displays

Here it is an unfinished article started a year ago about so;le Skoda models, article which will bring back to mife the Custopn Scale Car story teller.  

Skoda is not at all my cup of tea! I bought this tiny car in 24th scale because they are pretty cute. 

Unlike the others manufacturers from Eastern Europe in countries under the Russian comunits influence, Skoda chooses to be independent. When Russian industry and the Polish one chooses the western Europe support by collaborating with Fiat, Romania with Renault and so on, the Czech manufacturer maintain its independence and express himself. Skoda, renovating the 1000MB modell by introducing the all new 100/110 played “all on the rear” game. This architecture wasn’t unusual in the 70`s. Big manufacturers from Porsche to Fiat, passing by Renault are proposing this architecture. More than this the solution proved its efficiency through rally winning cars as Porsche and the tini Renault Alpine A110 - a Monte Carlo Rally winner.

Skoda launches two type of bodies on the same platform : the 100/110 sedan and one year later in 1970 the 110R Coupe. The coupe, in spite of normal performances (65 Hp and 19 seconds from 0 to 100 Km/h), has some features which are still loved today. The frameless doors, fast back profile,  supplementary dashboard indicators and sporty seats. I have to remark the Fuchs rims Czech interpretation. Anyway some called this car the Eastern Porsche but in fact there is nothing in common between this cars.

Even there are a certain sportivity in the design and in the conception of the 110R Coupe something is strange : the front hood a the front section is the same with the sedan one. This get the car out of the proportion of a classical Coupe making the side view a little strange but cute. I can tell that it brings in my mind the anime cars. 

Released by Hachette in their diecast 24th scale collection in my home country it has a pretty good interior details and a very well body shape. As you expect it will be modified, so I put it some Aoshima rims and as usual I lowered it as much as possible. Some modification was needed at the level of the chassis in order to maintain the functionality of the wheels. Some details were added in interior to replicate a two-tone upholstery and also the roof trim was added for the realism.

LADA 1200 | General Lee

Two years ago, during a trip in Armenia, I bought 3 car models 1@24th scale made by Hachette for Russian market : Lada 1200, Lada 1500 and Volga M24.

I always dream in my childhood at the modified cars of those times. At that time there wasn't a lot if tuned cars, so I can see modified cars just in competitions: rally, circuit races, hill climbing and so on.

The main feature for all those race prepared cars was the stance and deep dish rims. Like in nowadays, for the stanced lowered cars.

The '80-s and '90-s fascinated me... being my initiation in the automotive world.

Remembering this and wanted to have on my desk my childhood atmosphere, I'm modifing some representatives cars.

One of them is this LADA 1200. The style is not a pure '80-s but a modern one. Deep dish Aoshima rims, lowered at the max, General Lee Charger decals and chrome trims redone with MolotoW product.

ГАЗ M24-02 | old stanced wagon

GAZ 24 Volga was produced since 1967 until 1985, having several minor facelifts.

In 1972, the GAZ 24-02, a 4 door station wagon was introduced, fitted with three rows of seats. Not many cars were sold to the private people due to the small amount of production. The station wagon was used specially by state-owned shops, taxi companies or other state institutions.

The GAZ 24-02 has a generous interior, as told before, having 3 rows of seats and accommodating 7 or 8 seating passengers. Rear area of the interior could be converted in an spacious one level charging surface. This is why Volga 24-02 have heavy-duty leaf springs for the rear axle. Some sources mentioned that could be transported a load of 400kg.

Later on, in 1973 appears the GAZ 24-03, a wagon designated to be and equipped as Ambulance.

My model is 1@43^rd scale reproduction of an 24-02 sold by DeAgostini in Poland. Originally painted in dark violet it was a need to change this unusual color. So I mad it black, I weathered a little and I accessorize it giving the look of an uncared old Russian car. Normally the stance was modified because you know my opinion: the stance is everything.

NIVA | lifted

On the 29th of January 2013 I have published an article about some Lada cars I have in my collection. The title was “ LADA | LowEAST". You can (still) read it here : LADA | LowEAST

The last photo of the article was a Lada Niva lifted in front of an ARO 10.

May be you wanted to see more about it… The truth is that I intended to make, just after the LADA article, another one to present the NIVA. I forgot!

But now, here you can see more photos with this little 4x4 still very popular in my country among the off roader lovers.

But before this, some words about the car.

The Lada Niva or VAZ-2121 (Лада Нива) is an off roader produced by the Russian manufacturer AvtoVAZ. It can be find since 2009 on most markets as the Lada 4x4.

It was the first mass production off-road vehicle to feature a unibody architecture and independent front suspension with coil springs.

Basically, the Niva has a 1.6-litre carburetted petrol engine producing 72 hp) and 126 Nm, and full-time 4x4.

The model gets a lifted suspension, Land Rover alloy rims and a two tone color. Some details were reproduced in interior as well as at the exterior.

IFA W 5o | rake stance

IFA - Industrieverband Fahrzeugbau ('Industrial Association for Vehicle Construction'), was a union of companies for vehicle construction in East Germany (Deutsche Demokratische Republik - DDR).

All East German manufacturers were part of IFA! Interesting, isn't it?

But I don't intend to evoke the IFA facts. We will talk about the stance! An spectacular stance is the rake. Is not appropriate for modern cars in my opinion, but it fits as a glove on the old timers, or hot-rods or something like this.

What does it means a Raked Stance? The definition is very simple: the front is lower than the rear of the car. But, even it sound so simple, it is not easy to achieve a good and real Rake. Why? Because a correct rake it means that the rocker panel/side skirt is not parallel with the ground. And it still not enough! The eye of an "connaiseur" will judge the distance between the top of the rim lip and the top of the wheel arch. So, wile the side skirt is lower on the front side but the distance between the rim and fender (as defined previously) is bigger on the front comparing with rear, we will not see the car being raked.

Being short and clear: to archive a real and clean rake the car must be lower in front than in the rear and the front wheels must go deeper in the fenders than the rear ones, when we are looking at the car from side.

This time I get an IFA W5o from Atlas Collection of DDR Trucks and I raked it. Other modifications are the weathering, decals (german flag from an afterrmaket ITALERI Kit), interior detailing and other little thing.

fiat 124 | low'n slow

I continue the LowEast Project, this time, with a 1|18th scale model.

It is an FIAT 124 Yellow mustard, color laid down on the model specially for the Model Car World (http://www.modelcarworld.de/de/) die-cast scale models seller (They say “The limited edition of 1,012 copies model is expressed in classic yellow”).

There are some “luxury features” reporting to the Russian sister car, Lada 12oo. The white tire ring and the interior slightly retouched make the difference between the two car models.

So, inspired by the lowered Lada cars I found on the net, I did the same thing with this scale model. The modifications involved the reconstruction of the rear axle (cutting a piece of the axle upper side) and of the front suspension (reconstruction of the “upper suspension arm” on the molded body chassis). Doing these things I lowered the (die-cast) car about 10 mm, which is enormous when we’re seeing the “factory condition”.

The white ring becomes white wall and the rims they selves get a flat white finish to fit the look of a classy Euro low rider.

The sticker bomb decoration is made from the real tiny decals provided by different donors kits. The under doors trims are covered in some nail decals from a beauty shop.
